    Really A Whole Coast?

    The Notorious BIG

    The following was stated:

"I don't really listen to east coast music!"

I have an issue with that statement and for a few different reasons. One being that I don't see how you can hate a whole coast and secondly music is music...No matter where it is from its all music.

Truthfully, me personally I don't care where you are from. Where you are from doesn't make you better than anyone else. You can be from the South and be better than than a artist on the east and so on and so on. But to say you don't like a whole coast...

I can understand you not liking certain artists. I can understand you liking or not liking a certain sound, but I cant understand you saying you dont like a whole coast. These days if it doesn't sound like UGK or Eightball and MJG people will say its not south music...If it doesn't sound like Wu-Tang then its not eastcoast and if it doesnt sound like Mack 10 and Snoop its not westcoast. Wrong!! You have artists everywhere that grew up on a certain type of music and that's what comes out in the music they make. Jay Electronica is a perfect example of that. On first listen you wouldn't know he was from New Orleans but he reps his city to the fullest. Little Brother claim the south but a person that is strictly "south" is going to say they don't sound like they are from the south.

How do you sound like you are from a certain area? Ok...don't get me wrong the slang determines it for a lot of people but what if I don't want to say "kid" or what if I don't want to call you "cuz" does that mean that I am not from where I am say I am from? You mean to tell me if I am from the South I can't call you kid or son or God? If I am from NY I can't say "mayne" or "trill" or something like that?

    Its music people...

You can ask some of these same people that say they don't like a whole region about an artist from that region and they say "oh I rock with the cat". So why did you just make that statement? You don't like south music but you like Bun B? Tell Bun that and I can almost promise that he will have some choice words for you. Plus you are just contradicting yourself. Just say something like I don't like "insert artist name here" don't say I don't like westcoast music.

This is only spoken about when it comes to Hip-Hop anyway. R&B fans don't say the same thing...Country fans don't do it either. Hip-Hop fans are the only ones that want to categorize things by a coast. This is nothing new. We all remember the East vs West fiasco...Even the East vs South Fiasco. Stupid? Pretty much! I am one to tell you who I don't like and who I do like. I dint like all this pop-ish, autotuned music with no purpose other than for the club scene..Never have liked it though. Yeah a lot of it comes out the South but you got cats on the East that's doing the same thing. Just because a lot of it comes from the South doesn't mean I don't like the South. Remember Outkast, Goodie Mobb, Ball and G?

I am a fan of good music. My interpretation of good music and yours may totally be different. If they were the same then we would have no diversity in music. Don't knock a whole region because you don't like a few artists from that area. And if you call yourself a "fan" then you already know that you have to open up your ears to more than just the music in your area. If you cant do that then you aren't a fan. You are just being fed what the major media corporations are feeding you. Hurts to say it but that's the way most of these "fans" are these days.

Choose your words wisely...Think before you make such a broad statement. Start being a fan of music and stop being brainwashed.
