Wrestlemania 28 Sets WWE PPV Record

Written by
Looks like having The Rock help build up your biggest show of the year for over a year really pays off. WWE released this statement regarding the WrestleMania 28 buyrate, and it’s good news...

Preliminary estimates show that WrestleMania, featuring the historic “Once in a Lifetime” Match between The Rock and John Cena, garnered 1.3 million pay-per-view buys with global gross sales in excess of $67 million including the live event.

To put that into perspective (via F4W Online):

WWE announced today that WrestleMania 28 did 1.3 million worldwide PPV buys, breaking the record of 1.25 million set for the 2007 show featuring Donald Trump.

While the numbers are preliminary, it’s a good look. Shows that, with even a sliver of build-up, the WWE can pull in numbers. We won’t get into inflation causing ticket prices to rise (which in turn could fudge the numbers, if you go by total $ sold versus total number of tickets sold) or any of those other factors, and allow the WWE to win… for now. Further update(s) when word reaches.

I'll let you marinate on that while I wait for the homegirl Layla to return (fingers crossed!):
