The Run-In #18

It's probably my own fault. The post-AW era of the Prime Time Players looked like it might be catching fire with the Creative side of the WWE. Word was that Vince himself loved their entrance dance, and thought they were funny.

I was sure that the reports were true, that Darren and Titus would be winning the titles. It just made sense - they were the ones going back and forth with Truth and Kofi! Sadly, the WWE Universe latched onto this "hug it out" angle with Kane and Daniel Bryan, and the Prime Time Players are relegated to beating up the rest of the promising tag team division. And I hate it.

I hate it for the fact that, if the idea is to get the belts over as being important, we'd do more for them than what we always do: give them to two singles competitors in a feud and have them hold the belts to help push their angle. I don't care what you say, them shouting "I Am The Tag Team Champions" is more about digging at each other, not being proud tag title holders. This does not elevate the titles. This elevates their angle.

I wouldn't be so frustrated with this if the Tag Team division in the WWE wasn't so good. If they took a little time and looked at what they've got in front of them, you'd see the Usos, Primo & Epico, Tyson Kidd & Justin Gabriel, Sin Cara & Rey Mysterio, the Prime Time Players and R-Truth & Kofi. That's six solid tag teams that they can work with, some who ONLY work as a team. Why shun them and just keep pushing the hotter angle? I get it, you want to milk Kane/Bryan for all it's worth, believe me that makes sense. But once that angle is over... what do you have? You've undercut every viable team with lack of time on-screen or by being decimated by the better Kane and Bryan. Who really thinks the Usos hold enough weight to be tag champions, honestly? Based on the WWE's presentation, they're always in the running but once the race is over, we never see them.

I've said this time and again - the more I see the mistakes the WWE makes when it comes to putting over new talent, the more disgusted I get. And the PTP could be so hot! Titus especially has a dope charisma about him when you let him be himself. Give him some time to blow a whistle, call fouls like a ref in the NFL and then dance. It'd be gold. And they're throwing it all away.

I will admit: I am glad to see them at least get face time. But if they're not in the running, in a serious angle for the belts, it feels like wasted opportunities that could be getting capitalized on by tweaking things a bit differently. I guess we'll just have to wait for this Kane/Daniel Bryan train to run it's course... #sigh
