Back like we never left, although what are we back to? A grip of the same ol same ol from Creative, huh? The Night of Champions PPV is coming up, and it looks like the majority of the matches are rematches in some way, shape or form. And with little to no "new" in these programs, it really feels as repetitive as commercial rap radio!
The CM Punk/John Cena feud has been given legs by a new development: the reveal that Punk has been seen with Paul Heyman, which could bode well for future storylines. That's one we'll have to play out, but the tandem of Punk and Heyman could be a) just what CM Punk needs to get that full bore heel response and b) a strong union to possibly elevate John Cena in the faces of the crowd as a whole as someone to really get behind. All of that said, we saw Punk screw Cena out of the win at SummerSlam. Will Creative make this work?
Anyone tired of Sheamus/Del Rio? Without spoiling SmackDown, there's definitely a new ripple in their angle, although its not so much about their animosity towards each other. And that's the problem: I still don't know why they're so heated at each other to begin with. This will be the 3rd or 4the PPV straight that they'll meet each other for the World Title, and there's no doubt that Sheamus will win, as Dolph Ziggler's a full bore heel with a Money In The Bank contract in tow. Brogue Kick whomever you want, none of this is making the angle that much hotter.
With the other titles, we've got nothing but questions: we'll more than likely see Kofi and R-Truth take on the Prime Time Players for the belts. Who's Miz fighting for the IC title? He was briefly feuding with Rey Mysterio, who's now cliqued up with Sin Cara as a unit. What face is worthy of an Intercontinental Title match? Christian, who's on hiatus until the Bound For Glory PPV is done (he's still got to do that date due to the agreement WWE and TNA had for lending Flair to them for the Four Horsemen induction this year)? And who will be facing Antonio Cesaro, who recently decimated Santino on Raw? Layla is battling Kaitlyn as of right now, but that match screams "DON'T DO IT!"
You'd hope that Creative could figure out more storylines for their stars. Only program outside Punk/Cena that they get right is the Kane/Daniel Bryan fiasco. Even if Charlie Sheen doesn't get involved, its getting over. Is there an endgame though? Maybe that's my problem - these stories have awful conclusions for no good reason. And it can't be a surprise - the numbers for Raw have not been as good since going three hours. Summer's almost officially over - can we be over this?
