The Run-In #23: Now What?

Written by
I'll preface this with the following: I know Ryback wasn't winning Hell In A Cell last night. I knew that.In the grand scheme of t hings, it made no sense, and based on reports that leaked hours before the event, Creative has Punk booked with the WWE Championship up to Survivor Series. Imagine the look on my face when the ref turned and hit Ryback with a low-blow when CM Punk was up in the Shellshock, though. Just picture it.

See, booking like that? I was waiting to hear that Vince Russo, the guy who helped merk WCW with horrible booking, had been re-hired. With a beast like Paul Heyman standing at ringside doing nothing, why not have him interfere? I didn't think a Brock Lesnar run-in last night would've made sense, but something could've happened. Last year, Miz and R-Truth lifted the cage to attack John Cena/Punk/Del Rio in that whole angle, which had HHH come out and run roughshod on those hooligans. 2012 we get a lowly ref nutshot? Just doesn't feel right.

And there were some respected rasslin' journalists who were praising this! I'm waiting to hear their official thoughts, but "because it's fun" better not be the result. Because I didn't have fun. I was immediately like "nah, fam" when I saw the ref stop Ryback mid-finisher. It just gave me a sour taste, and I have been apologetic about some finishers the WWE has done over the years.

The illest thing? The WWE was mad at the crowd! The PPV overall wasn't amazing, but it had solid matches. There's barely any news coming from the fallout of the event; aside from Big Show's shocking win and this main event malarky, nothing else of note is hitting. The Shellshock Ryback gave post-match on top of the cage was cool for future DVD promos, but really, who cares?

Are they saving this match for Survivor Series? We'll see. Having these two wrestle in a huge cage to a crap finish, THEN return at Survivor Series with something less grandiose isn't really the way you book. You want to build TOWARDS Hell In A Cell, not from it. Or did I miss something? Maybe 2012 WWE Booking is all about reverse booking. Who knows. We'll find out tonight, surely...
