PETMAN & AlphaDog

PETMAN is an anthropomorphic robot developed by Boston Dynamics for testing special clothing used by US military personnel. PETMAN balances itself as it walks, squats and does simple calisthenics. PETMAN simulates human physiology by controlling temperature, humidity and sweating inside the clothing to provide realistic test conditions. The AlphaDog Proto is a lab prototype for the Legged Squad Support System, a robot being developed by Boston Dynamics with funding from DARPA and the US Marine Corps. When fully developed the system will carry 400 lbs of payload on 20-mile missions in rough terrain. The first version of the complete robot will be ready in 2012. This video shows early results from the lab where we are developing the control systems and locomotion platform. This lab prototype is powered remotely. AlphaDog will draw power from an internal combustion engine, which we designed to be 10x quieter than BigDog. The field version of AlphaDog will have a sensor head packed with terrain sensors.

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Confirmed

Confirming the rumors posted the other day, PlanetXbox360 reported that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was shown at Capcom's Captivate event in Hawaii.

There's an embargo on the details, so you won't be seeing screen shots, movies and other things until early next week, but here's the notes they were able to get together.

• Confirmed characters so far are Wolverine, Spider-Man, The Hulk, Magneto, Storm and a few others will return.

• The Marvel vs. Capcom 3 development team said they will be blowing fans out of the water with the sheer number of characters this game includes on the disc.

• This will be another 2D fighter — gameplay-wise — but will be something of a cross between the original Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Street Fighter 4.

• The rumored release date is late 2010 or early 2011 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, no plans right now for other systems.

• The game will run in 1080p resolution.

• It will be a disc-based release.

• Apparently the game will have unlockables again.

• Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be playable at this year's E3 which is held on June 15 - 17th.

Core i7 Is The New Hotness

For all of my techies out there, this had excited me as well. In comparison of benchmarks to the Core 2 Duo processor:

A 2.93 GHz Core i7 940 system has been used to run a 3DMark Vantage benchmark and gave a CPU score of 17,966.[16] The 2.66 GHz Core i7 920 scores 16,294. An earlier generation Core processor, 2.66 GHz Core 2 Quad Q9450, scores 11,131. -- [ SOURCE ]

The Core i7 is a family of quad core processors and is billed as the successor to the Core 2 Duo. I built my computer myself. It has a Core 2 duo (dual core) processor and it's already fast enough. Motherboards for this processor are slim in number and DD3 memory sticks that will be required for it currently cost more than the DD2's but who cares...stick with your Core 2 Duo's now until this time next year and everything will be affordable enough to swap your whole system for this...you know how the technology game is. OR you can just buy the complete system from Dell now for $2600.

...all of this really means is that it's just really powerful.
